In true Anchor style, our Anchorites celebrated St Patrick’s day by dressing in green and drinking Guinness. Given that St Patrick’s day fell on a Sunday, we started early on Friday. It looks like the celebrations will be continuing into this week, as the decorations are still up, and there’s still some Guinness left over!
Happy staff don’t grow from nothing – it’s the well balanced diet of free lunch every week, giant cakes several times a month, a variety of daily snacks, and of course, free beer, that does the job. At Anchor, we supply beer and soft drinks to quench the thirst of everyone in the office. We even have a separate beer fridge that’s refilled a couple of times a week to make sure it’s always packed up – possibly the most important job I have. Whether it’s during a lazy Friday lunch in the office or after a day of work, we like to enjoy a beer or three to kick back and relax.
Just a quick reminder that our end-of-year meetup and drinks are on tonight. Free this evening? Not any more! 🙂 The fun kicks off at 6pm at the King Street Brewhouse, which is on King Street Wharf funnily enough. If you’re coming along it’d be appreciated if you drop in an RSVP. See you there!
It’s been a long year, and you need to unwind. That’s why we want to see you at our gathering in a few weeks time! Drop in to the King Street Brewhouse on the 15th of November; that’s a Thursday. We’ll be there and putting on a bar tab from 6pm, and sticking around until everyone wanders off home. So come on down and join us for a drink and a chat. Devs, sysadmins, tech nerds, startups and entrepreneurs, all are welcome. If you’re coming along it’d be really appreciated if you pop an RSVP to help our planning. See you there!
Recently Matt Palmer, our Operations Manager, gave a talk in Sydney at the recent Online Retailer conference. A brief overview of this talk: In this talk, I will share our experience running and scaling some large-scale Magento websites, and give you a set of questions that you can use to ensure that your site is able to handle whatever the Internet throws at it, whether it be a huge surge in popularity or a data-centre-destroying disaster. A copy of the slides including all the questions raised in the talk is available for download Anchor will be presenting this topic again tonight at the Magento Meetup Sydney, at the King Street Brewhouse, 22 The Promenade, Darling Harbour. In addition to the content in this talk, we will also be covering aspects…
If you’re in the CBD and feeling parched tomorrow evening (Tuesday June 26th), why not come along to the King St. Brewhouse? From 18:00 we’ll be rubbing shoulders with members of the local Joomla, Drupal, WordPress and Magento communities. They’re all great open source platforms in the e-commerce sphere, so come on down if that’s your thing. It’s a great chance to meet other like-minded people, ask questions and get feedback on ideas. Anchor is running a bar tab for the evening to ensure a steady supply of refreshment and a few of us will be around, so feel free to drop in and have a chat. eCommerce Mid-Year Mixer Meetup We look forward to seeing you there!
Our pals over at Github and Heroku are having a drinkup this evening at King St. Wharf. It’s not strictly our gig, but a few of us will be along to shoot the breeze on sysadminly topics and have a yarn. More details on Github’s page, come along if you like hanging around hardcore technical people (and beer taps).
Just a short post to let you all know that Anchor’s David Basden and Chris Collins will be presenting their software which is being used in our on-going projects to automate everything relating to Anchor dedicated server builds. The software, which has been released as open source on github as was discussed in brief in the previously two blog posts The automation waltz and Automate all the things. The event will be held at 7pm, next Thursday, 15th September at the Orient in Sydney and will give you the fantastic opportunity to have a beer and chat with the authors of the software as well as like minded people with both developer and systemadmin backgrounds. Comprehensive details as well as registration for the meetup can be found at September DevOps…
At Anchor, we have recently acquired shiny new APC Power rails! This means that we now have a whole bunch of metered APC power rails in the office, which we no longer need. If you have read this blog before, you will understand how much our SysAdmins love beer. This is why we have come to a company-wide consensus that we will swap our power rails for beer! Let us know if you have some decent beer and we can trade you a power rail! (APC Model: AP7852) Contact us at 1300 883 979 or [email protected] – Get in fast, first in, first served! (We are parched!)
I think everyone in the office has just about recovered from St. Patrick’s day. Which is a good thing, what with the weekend coming up. Are we doin’ it right? Honestly, the only glassware in the office is beer steins. This isn’t a problem, mind you…
