VPS Operating Systems
Anchor supports and recommends the following operating systems for virtual private servers:- Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
- CentOS
- Windows Server 2008 (Data Centre, Standard & Web editions)
You also have the option of building your own virtual machine in which case you have complete freedom over the choice of operating system.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is a Linux distribution produced by Red Hat and targeted toward commercial users. Red Hat continues to provide security patches and updates for each version for 7 years from initial release.
RHEL is licenced on a monthly subscription basis.
CentOS
CentOS is a free distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Since RHEL is based on free open source software they are required to make available the source code for their products. CentOS is patched, updated and supported by the community and strives to remain 100% compatible with RHEL.
Other Linux distributions
Anchor can also provide VPS servers based on Debian and Fedora if required, or you can build your own server.

Designed for dedicated Web serving and hosting, Windows 2003 Web Edition, delivers a single-purpose solution for Internet service providers, application developers.
Web Edition cannot:
- run Microsoft SQL Server,
- cannot operate as a domain controller
- cannot deploy UDDI
Windows Server 2008 STD
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is the current full featured version of Microsoft's server operating system.
Anchor recommends Windows Server 2008, 2003 can be installed if required for application compatibility.
Server Managers
In addition to the standard operating sytems can install a vast range of their party applications including server management systems such as Plesk and CPanel.
Plesk is a multi-platform, Web-based software solution that simplifies and automates the administration of Linux and Windows servers.
Plesk must be installed at the time of server build, it cannot be added to an existing server without losing all existing configuration.
cPanel & WebHost Manager (WHM) is a next generation web hosting control panel system. Both cPanel & WHM are extremely feature rich as well as include an easy to use web based interface (GUI).
WHM allows you to but is not limited to administering individual accounts, reseller accounts & performing basic system and control panel maintenance via a secure interface.
cPanel is designed for the end users of your system and allows them to control everything from adding / removing email accounts to administering MySQL databases.
CPanel/WHM must be installed at the time of server build, it cannot be added to an existing server without losing all existing configuration.
