MySQL Database

MySQL and MySQL databases are available with web hosting services. The following pages provide guides on how to connect to your MySQL database and common operations.

Important notes

  1. The password required to access your database is different and independent of the password used for FTP and Control panel access.
  2. Your database name and password will initially be stored in the .my.cnf file in the home directory of your website hosting account. Some FTP clients will not list this file by default as the '.' prefix indicates that it is a hidden file.
  3. You cannot make a direct connection to the database from a remote machine for security reasons. This service is firewalled from remote connections. You can establish an SSH tunnel if you require access.
