That's not a bad way to do it either. The trick for us would be getting that level of automation bolted onto our existing Nagios deployment. Saying it's a little bit crufty would be generous.

I kind of wish we could push more logic into moin. It's probably not too hard, as I'm somewhat familiar with the plugin/macro interface, but I think I'd have to write a hook that catches page requests and redirects them. Something a little like the InterWikiMap might do it, in so far as making a rewrite table goes.

We do a fairly similar thing but have the URLs specified as a default for that service in our Puppet configurations. It can be overridden for particular services or particular machines through our config data inheritance/override system but it's not quite as automated as your smart rewrite system because there is no direct connectivity between production and the internal documentation systems.

But it is very cool, I like the idea. In theory you could have the logic on the documentation server side if you have a similar convention with documentation pages fixed in your document hierarchy.

True, cPanel makes server administration and account management easy by hiding technical details. But those details are merely hidden, they do not disappear. When there are problems, you still need to have troubleshooting skills. Moreover, cPanel has gotten more complex over the years and to *use* it proficiently is also a skill in itself.

But aren't most certification program created mostly to make money? :)
